Methodists United in Prayer: A Call to Action for the People of Cuba

The article below is from the Methodist United in Prayer and the Florida Conference.

A Call to Action for the People of Cuba

In the last few days, we have witnessed in shock and despair the violence against peaceful protesters that erupted following the President of Cuba’s call “to defend the Cuban Revolution from ideological subversion.” Attacks on unarmed civilians including children and elderly people have led to many deaths while hundreds have been taken into undisclosed locations after being beaten and shot at.

Methodists United in Prayer echoes the words of the Methodist Church in Cuba and condemns all violence against the people of Cuba. Furthermore, we call our churches in Florida and across our nation to:

  1. FAST and PRAY for the people of Cuba. “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?” – Isaiah 58:6
  2. Lift up a SHARED PRAYER during Sunday worship for the people of Cuba. “Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses.” –  Psalm 107:2
  3. GIVE towards relief for the people of Cuba through the Methodist Church in Cuba. “But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?” – 1 John 3:17
  4. Send LETTERS to our nation’s leaders: the President, the Senate and the House of Representatives“Save, Lord! May the King answer us when we call.” – Psalm 20:9

This Call to Action from Methodists United in Prayer has been endorsed by:
