Vacation Bible School 2024

VBS registration is now closed, and we are no longer accepting students for the waitlist. Thank you for your interest; we hope you can join us next summer.

Vacation Bible School 2024: Camp Firelight, June 17-20, 2024 (Monday to Thursday) at FUMCWP.

VBS Campers join camp counselor Sam and Lu (short for Lumen the lightning bug) and learn to face their fears while trusting in God. Each day our Campers explore Bible stories that show how Old and New Testament Campers trusted God in the face of their own fears and went on to do great things in God’s name. This is always an awesome week of singing, dancing, bible stories, crafts, games, snacks, and more.

DEI Doc Night

Join us on Sunday night, September 24th for a screening of For They Know Not What They Do (2019) and discussion. The film follows four LGBTQ teenagers and young adults who, together with their Christian families, navigate their identities in politically-charged climates. The film is grounded in empathy and individual stories, while also featuring thoughts and stories from leading, affirming clergy. It’s a must-watch for Christians who want to understand the challenges that LGBTQ youth face, especially transgender youth in places like Florida.

This DEI Doc Night is presented in partnership by FUMCWP’s DEI Ministry and Winter Park Student Ministry. Parents of youth attending Elevate are especially invited; youth can be dropped off at 5:45pm and picked up at 8:30pm for this evening. 11th and 12th-grade students are also invited at their parents’ discretion. The film contains intense moments and mature content concerning self-harm, suicide, substance abuse, anti-trans violence, and the Pulse mass shooting.

Our film introduction and post-film discussion will be moderated by Josh Bell (he/him) who is a coach, consultant, and community leader with over two decades of experience building relationships with diverse organizations and stakeholders. He has consulted with a broad spectrum of leaders and organizations on topics ranging from LGBTQ+ inclusion, to leadership development, to governance and organizational health. In addition to consulting, Josh provides coaching to emerging and established leaders to help each person find his, her, and/or their own unique and powerful voice. Josh served as a United Methodist pastor for 10 years prior to entering nonprofit and consulting work.

MFLC 313 is on the third floor of the Matthias Family Life Center/gymnasium on the corner of Morse Blvd. and Knowles Ave. An elevator in the lobby offers access to the third floor.

The event is free, but pre-registration is requested.

Soul Collage ©

Soul Collage© is a self-expressive process using images through art as tools to explore each participant’s creative and individual gifts. It can reveal the Soul of a person as a child of God as well as help in healing and self-awareness. The images act on the right side of the brain to open the creative process. It is flexible, inclusive, and fun. In this faith setting, the person’s Soul can be revealed in beautiful and unique ways that may have been covered up by our culture or a person’s life over time.

Soul Collage© is sponsored by our Health and Wholeness Ministry and may be shared with other ministries within our church family. Space is limited.

Facilitators: Mary Scott & Ivor Singer

Please note, space is limited to 8 participants.

TWO FREE HARP CONCERTS

  • Anne Sullivan, Solo Harp Concert:  Friday, July 28, 7pm
  • Ensemble of 12+ Harps, “Music of the French Composers”: Sunday, July 30, 3pm

This summer, July 28 – 30, 2023, the Central Florida Chapter of the American Harp Society is hosting a Weekend Harp Workshop.  Harpists from Florida and surrounding states will gather to learn new techniques from Guest Clinician, Anne Sullivan.  Ms. Sullivan began her career at age twelve when she appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.  She is a nationally known recitalist and chamber musician, performing regularly with SPARX Flute and Harp Duo, Duo Parisienne Violin and Harp Duo and Trio Montage.  She was a member of the Curtis Institute of Music Faculty from 1982-2002, is the author and arranger of numerous works for harp and presents workshops nationwide.  Through her website at Harpmastery.com, she teaches harpists worldwide.

The weekend begins with a Solo Harp Recital presented by Ms. Sullivan and ends with ALL the workshop participants performing together in a large harp ensemble concert.  Don’t miss this beautiful visual, as well as aural, experience.  If you are a harpist interested in participating in the Weekend Harp Workshop, visit the website, www.centralfloridaharp.org.
