DEI Doc Night: Resisting Christian Nationalism

Aug. 29, 2024, 6:15 PM - 9:00 PM

Credo Conduit 1001 N Orange Ave Orlando, FL 32801

Join our church’s DEI Ministry and the Interfaith Council of Central Florida for a powerful public forum on resisting Christian nationalism. We will screen the film God & Country, which was released this year and features interviews with experts on religious freedom and violence like William Barber II, Simone Campbell, Russell Moore, Jemar Tisby, David French, and Kristin Kobes du Mez. Following the film, David B. Witwer will moderate a conversation about Christian nationalism in Central Florida and the possibilities of Christian and interfaith resistance rooted in love.

Our panel will consist of Rabbi David Kay, Chair of the Interfaith Council of Central Florida and Adjunct Professor at Rollins College, Rev. Dr. Sharon Austin, Director of Justice Ministries and District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church (FL Conference), and David Williamson, the co-founder of the Central Florida Freethought Community. NOTE: Our panel will no longer feature Rev. Dr. James T. Morris, who was unable to join us for personal reasons.

Please arrive at 6:15pm to allow for a prompt programming start at 6:30pm. DEI Doc Night will be hosted at Credo Conduit, just north of Downtown Orlando. Accessible parking, lot parking, and street parking will all be available and a parking map will be provided to registrants before the event. This event is intended for a mature audience, which could include discerning high school students. Childcare will not be available.

Free registration is required, and this event is open to the public. Please bring friends, family, and neighbors to this important conversation as we seek to be responsible people of faith in the public square.
