DEI Doc Night: 1946

Sep. 24, 2026, 6:15 PM - 8:45 PM

Winter Park Campus 125 N. Interlachen Ave. Winter Park, FL 32789

Join the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Ministry for our next DEI Doc Night featuring 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture. The film follows Sharon “Rocky” Roggio as she seeks belonging in the church as an LGBTQ Christian, while negotiating an important but challenging relationship with her father Salvatore, a pastor who starts an anti-LGBTQ ministry. The film also follows activist and historian Kathy Baldock who discovers internal debate about using the word “homosexual” in the Revised Standard Bible in 1946, and also connects with the man who wrote a letter to the translators worrying that their new translation would become a weapon against LGBTQ people.

We’re excited to view the film in community and then “circle up” for table conversation afterward to form impressions, practice curiosity, and consider how we can build nurturing relationships across disagreement. Doors will open at 6:15PM with our program beginning promptly at 6:30PM. Snacks and drinks will be provided, but no meal or childcare. The film will end around 8:15PM with time for small group discussion after. Please join us!
