Barbara Thompson will once again lead our DEI summer book study! This year we are picking up The Flag and the Cross, a 2022 sociological study of white Christian nationalism. As concerned Christians, we recognize that strains of this deeply troubling movement are all around us—in our country, our churches, our families, and possibly even within ourselves. The Flag and the Cross offers insight and articulation into what exactly white Christian nationalism is and how it contrasts with the gospel of Christ, while offering tools to skillfully resist it. At the same time, we recognize that our political work as Christians is grounded in Christ’s call to love our political enemies.

This study will be offered virtually on Zoom from 7–8:30PM on alternating Mondays. We welcome participants from around the country, but do ask that each new guest be invited by a participating church member (or previous book study alum).
