What is the Current Situation?
On April 16, 2026, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1689 with bipartisan support. This bill extends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and work authorization for Haitian nationals for three years (until April 20, 2029).
To build support in the Senate , Senator Ed Markey has introduced S.4814 (Note: Senator cannot co-sponsor H.R. 1689). We are asking Senators to sign on to co-sponsor and vote on S.4814 to extend TPS for Haitians.
Why is This Urgent?
- Protection: It provides critical safety to hundreds of thousands of Haitians who have built families and communities in the United States.
- Economic Impact: Haitian TPS holders contribute significantly to the U.S. economy and local communities.
- Human Dignity: Our faith calls us to stand with the vulnerable and ensure that those who have found refuge can continue to live without fear of deportation.
