ELEVATE High School Retreat 2018
It’s that time again: to boldly go where you don’t know where you’re going! It’s a mystery again this year– maybe we will see the Grand Canyon? Maybe we will wrestle Gabe Glass? Maybe we will have a ton of fun together? (that last one is a yes–the first two, probably not)
Classes being Jan. 21
Confirmation refers to the decision a person makes to respond to God’s grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith, the history and teachings of The United Methodist church and an explanation of the membership vows they will be professing.

Kenya Mission Trip
Elevate Student Ministries is going to Kenya! We are traveling there to meet and develop relationships with our Panua brothers and sisters. The point of this trip is to develop advocates for Panua and it’s mission- so we won’t be building homes, but rather building meaningful relationships. Each student will need a parental chaperone. Cost of trip is $2,500. There will be fundraising opportunities for the whole team!

There are many ways for parents and adults to be involved in Student Ministry. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join as…
- Bible Study Leaders
- Small Group Leaders
- Food Preparation Team Members
- Hospitality Team Members
- and Trip Chaperones
Adults do not need to be Biblical scholars- you just need a passion for students and willingness to allow God to use you in our ministry.
Student Ministry believes we are only successful when families work together with the church. One way for families to be involved in our ministry is through weekly dinners! ELEVATE is looking for families to come together to create a meal for the students on Sunday nights.
Students will be charged $5 for dinner. This money will be used to help cover your cost for providing the meal. In order to help make sure providing dinner is not too much of a financial gift, we will do our best to provide you with an accurate estimate for attendance. However, we cannot guarantee you will always have a full return on your investment.

These classes provide a way to practice the Ministry of Presence. It allows us an opportunity to be still, so we can quiet our bodies, and clear our minds. Through calming mindful practices which include physical movement, Biblical meditation, guided relaxation and other centering practices, we begin to see ourselves and others for our spiritual gifts and for how God created us (remembering we are fearfully and wonderfully made). By being in the present moment, we can connect at a deeper level with our family and friends. When our mind is not focused on the past or future, we notice the many blessings in our lives, versus the challenges we face daily. Being present, surrendering the past and future and trusting that God will provide for us, allows us to expand with an openness as we fulfill God’s calling in our lives.
At ELEVATE Student Ministry we believe that community is an essential part of our faith. As a result of this belief, we offer many small group opportunities to students so they can learn more about their faith and grow as a community.

We hope you consider joining us on Sunday evenings for fun and fellowship!
Part of our faith calls us to serve those that are in need in our community, in our country and around the world. ELEVATE Student Ministry provides awesome opportunities each year for all students to get involved, get connected, and to grow in their faith as a part of a mission trip. Below is a description of our Summer Mission Trips.
SOUL and S.S. Mission
SOUL (Serving Orlando with Unconditional Love) was created by ELEVATE Student Ministry in 2011. Students are given the opportunity to serve our local community through various organizations. During SOUL, the students plan and organize Vacation Bible School for the children of the Southstreet community during the mornings and take part in acts of service each afternoon. S.S. Mission gives students the opportunity to participate in various service projects in the community. The trips both takes place in Downtown Orlando at Southstreet Ministry and runs from Sunday evening to Friday evening. All rising 7th-12th grade students are encouraged to participate!
Stay at Home Work Camp at HEART
HEART (Hunger Education and Resource Training Institute) is an immersive third world country simulation in Lake Wales, Florida. Stay at Home Work Camp is a program that gives students a chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of needy families in Central Florida while having a ton of fun. When you put those two things together, you get an exciting new adventure for Elevate. Open to students who have completed grades 8-11th.
For the last four years, Elevate has supported the Panua organization, helping to transform the lives of Kenyan youth. This summer, we are going to go to Kenya and see what that support has done and how we can continue support the organization in the future. This trip is limited to 14 people, and students will need to fill out an application to attend. Each student will need to have an adult chaperone, so preference will be given to students that have parents who can attend. Please join us on this adventure!
Every other year, our high school students are offered the opportunity to travel to Los Chiles, Costa Rica to participate in Agua Viva. Students are immersed in the culture of the community while participating in service through well building, home improvement and working with children. This trip is open to rising 10th-12th grade students.
Each year our IMPACT Singers raise money to go on a mission trip to a different city to sing, learn, and serve. Past trips have included: New York City, Baton Rouge and Chicago.
In Student Ministry, we believe that worship is an important part of our relationship with Christ. We encourage students to participate in worship on Sundays, whether through the Traditional Services (8:00am, 11:00am – Sanctuary) or Contemporary (9:30am – MFLC Gym). Students are also given the opportunity to worship at ELEVATE on Sunday Evenings.
Why We Exist
We hope to encourage each student to get to know and begin an intimate relationship with God that will last a lifetime. ELEVATE Student Ministry reaches middle and high school students and helps them:
- CONNECT through cultivating authentic relationships with God, ourselves and others.
- PARTICIPATE in small groups, worship and Bible study in order to awaken spiritually and personalize Biblical truths.
- MOVE from just learning about to living out the Gospel through discovery, development and practice of our spiritual gifts.
- FOLLOW Jesus Christ by SERVING our community and our world.
- GROW continually in faith by allowing the spirit of God to work, so that we may reflect the character of Christ.
Michael is a native of Boston, but has spent the majority of his life in Central Florida. He married his high school sweetheart Amanda and they have a puppy named Fatty Lumpkin. In May of 2016, they welcomed Annabelle Grace, their first child and they are thrilled with her! When he’s not working (at the greatest job in the world!), Michael loves to hike, rock climb, watch Netflix, do Cross Fit, and hang out with his wife and friends. He hates mayonnaise (don’t ask), was on Tosh.0 (please do ask), and he can’t hear out of one of his ears (ask, but do it loudly). Michael loves Jesus, and doing mission work!
Andrea Levreault – Assistant Director of Student Ministries
Andrea was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. In May 2017, she moved back to Orlando after receiving her Masters of Divinity from Candler School of Theology. She is excited to be back home with her family. When she is not working, Andrea loves to go to theme parks, play volleyball, and hang out with family and friends. Andrea is passionate about small groups and serving. Andrea looks forward to living into the vision God has for the students at First UMC Winter Park.
