Family Promise

What: About 13 congregations take turns hosting, and another 13 congregations support the hosts in the housing of homeless families in the community for a week at a time as they transition from homelessness and un- or under-employment, to stable housing and employment.  There are opportunities for setting up the rooms the families will stay in, providing evening meals, serving as daytime hosts on the weekend, serving as evening hosts during the dinner hour until bedtime, serving as overnight hosts, assisting in teardown at the end of the week, washing of linens afterward, and providing pantry items during the week.

Restoration CircleRestoration Circle

What: As the body of Christ, we will spread awareness about human trafficking throughout our congregation so that we can help prevent it and provide healing and spiritual restoration for those affected.

Daily Bread

What: Daily Bread offers a free nourishing noon-time meal to anyone in the community who is hungry. Come by yourself, get some friends together or recruit your small group. Sign up and join in to serve lunch.

Family Serve Opportunity at United Against Poverty (formerly Community Food & Outreach)

What: Bring your family and join with our church family in the spirit of service for Family Night at Orlando UP Center (United Against Poverty). There will be dinner, music and a whole lot of fun as we work together to help organize the Cost Share Grocery Program, the Emergency Food Pantry and the Community Thrift Center.

Stop Hunger Now stop_hunger_now

What: Help feed our hungry brothers and sisters around the world by participating in this fun, fast-paced meal-packing event.  Our church has purchased and packed over 150,000 meals to date!

Food DrivesThanksgiving

What: Summer – bring the requested item of the week to church on Sunday.  Help sort and deliver food to the Christian Service Center and/or United Against Poverty Orlando.  November drive: Pick up a grocery bag on Sunday, fill it with the items listed on the front of the bag, return filled bags to red bins at church.  Shortly before Thanksgiving, help deliver/distribute filled bags to South Street Ministry and Reeves Terrace.

“Soup”er Bowl Sunday

What: Bring in cans of soup on Super Bowl Sunday to be donated to various local entities.

Florida United Methodist Children’s Home

What: On each 5th Sunday during the year, all loose offering, as well as designated offerings, are donated to the Children’s Home in Enterprise.  AdditioUMCHnally, we host an annual picnic in September, and need lots of volunteers to provide and serve the food and visit/play with the children.

Family Mission Trip to LeesburgWarren Willis

What: Bring the whole family and your sleeping bags, and have a great time camping and serving at Warren Willis Camp!  Arrive Friday night for fun and fellowship, and serve around the camp on Saturday before heading home after lunch.

Sager-Brown Depot (UMCOR)UMCOR

What: The Sager-Brown Depot in Baldwin, LA is the headquarters for UMCOR’s relief-supply operations. Each year, about $4 million in supplies are prepared for shipment from the Baldwin campus. Locally, UMCOR Sager Brown reaches out to Baldwin neighbors through food distribution and housing rehabilitation projects, engaging volunteers in these projects that help families and the elderly.

What: A joint ministry between FUMCWP and the United Methodist Churches of Kenya, this is a 3-year program for orphans and vulnerable children and youth in the slums of Naivasha, Kenya.  Youth receive financial sponsorship for 3 years, business, vocational and life skills training, and spiritual guidance and encouragement.  Show the love of Christ and share your blessings with our brothers and sisters in Naivasha!  You may sponsor a youth for one, two or all three years of the program (sponsorship entails $365/year financial support, daily prayer, and exchanging two letters/year), and/or join a mission trip to Naivasha to meet these inspiring and motivated youth and their families.

Age range/skill level: Sponsorship:  anyone – singles, families, small groups.  Mission trips: high school (with parent) and up, no skills required, except for medical mission trips

Agua Viva

What: Help drill water wells, provide Vacation Bible School to community children, build a church and/or help local students learn English.  Along the way, worship and build community with our neighbors in Costa Rica.Agua Viva Serves

Age range/skill level: middle school (with parent) and up.  Construction skills welcome, but not necessary.  Different trips offered for various ages.

VIM (Volunteers in Mission) Panama

What: UMVIMShare the love of Christ with new friends in Panama.  This is our first year making this trip – join the team to build something beautiful!  The plans for this trip are to assist in heavy construction with the building of a two-story concrete community building, with the possibility of starting work on a sanctuary.  Additionally, our team will be actively engaged in relational ministry in the community.

Age range/skill level: adults.  Physical strength and/or construction experience a plus, but not mandatory.
