Join us on Sunday, April 28th for Spring Serve Day!

On this day, we will hold one worship service followed by several opportunities to love our neighbor. Our hope is to spread God’s love, lend a helping hand, and build relationships both in and out of the church!

Worship: 10-11am, MFLC Gym

All opportunities to serve will start after the worship service. Start and end times vary based on the project and location. Please see details in the descriptions below.

Please visit the Resources section of your registration for additional items to complete and read your confirmation email for details.

Service Projects

Project 1: Drive up Prayer
Leader: Cathy Kuhns
Location: Parking lot on Interlachen
Time: 11:00am-12:30pm
Meet at the sanctuary steps on Interlachen Ave. immediately after worship. We will hold signs offering to pray for those who are traveling by our church.  We will take turns holding signs inviting those driving by to pull into the parking lot for prayer and praying for whatever their prayer request is. Bring big smiles!

Project 2: United Against Poverty
Leader: David Witwer
Location: United Against Poverty Orlando, 150 W. Michigan St. Orlando, FL 32806
Time: 12pm-2pm
Join our team going to United Against Poverty Orlando. We will work in the Member Marketplace and Grocery—stocking shelves, counting inventory, cleaning and sorting. The Marketplace provides household and grocery options to families with limited income, including clothing and fresh food and produce. We will meet on-site at their volunteer photo board (next to Grocery exit and accessible from main parking lot). Closed-toed shoes are required and you must fill out a waiver (available in the Resources section of this registration) if you have not volunteered with United Against Poverty in the past. Children can participate with a parent or guardian.

Project 3: Plant & Deliver Flowers
Leader: Leah Gaughan
Location: Sanctuary Courtyard
Time: 11:00-12:30
Meet in the Sanctuary Courtyard to plant flowers in flowerpots, decorated by our children’s ministry kids, and to make spring greeting cards for each delivery. We will split into small groups to deliver 2 flowerpots to some of our older church members and to local businesses. You will receive addresses and instructions when we gather. Bring your garden gloves for planting!

Project 4: Killarney Teacher Appreciation
Leader: Claud Smith and Philip Allred
Location: Wesleyan Fellowship Hall
Time: 11:00am-12:30pm
Let’s show the teachers and staff at Killarney Elementary, our school partner, some love and appreciation for all their hard work. We will write notes of encouragement, create small treat bags, and donate money for a teacher appreciation meal.

Project 5: Family Promise Take-Down and Clean-up
Leader: Jenny Wolfe and Rebecca DeVane
Location: MFLC 3rd Floor
Time: 11:00am-1pm
Help complete our week of serving Family Promise by loading the families’ luggage and cots into the trailer, organizing and returning the bedroom items and racks to our Storage Room, sorting used linens into laundry bags and labeling for pickup. We will also vacuum all sleeping rooms and clean the refrigerator, kitchen and Youth Lounge area.

Project 6: Killarney Campus Beautification
Leader: Troy McGuire
Location: Killarney Elementary School, 2401 Wellington Blvd, Winter Park, FL 32789
Time: 11:30am-1:30pm
Come to Killarney Elementary to paint garden beds, start a pollinator garden and help with pulling weeds and thinning plants. Bring your garden gloves and tools (shovels, clippers, rakes) to join the work and fun! OCPS Background Check REQUIRED: Sign up here as an OCPS Killarney Elementary volunteer through OCPS.

Project 7: United Methodist Children’s Home Activity Basket
Leader: Rachel DeLaune
Location: Wesleyan Fellowship Hall
Time: 11:00am-12:30pm
Maybe you have heard of the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, but you don’t know all that it does. Join us to create activity baskets for the youth living there and write notes of encouragement to remind the youth just how special they are to God. As part of this registration process, please consider signing up to bring gift cards to accompany the baskets.

Additional Support
If you would like to be part of the day but can’t be there in person, you can register to offer additional support.  Some options include praying for specific projects donating teacher appreciation items and contributing to the cost of flowers and gardening supplies. We will feel your presence even when you are far!

Please drop off items M – F, 9am-4pm at the church main office during the week of April 21st.  If you can’t make it then, contact Victoria at victoriav@fumcwp.org for drop-off options.
