Brain Fitness Academy
Brain Fitness Academy (BFA) is a ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Winter Park and open to serving community members experiencing early memory loss related to Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, or other forms of dementia. Twice a week, members meet for four hours to participate in activities that exercise the mind and body. Members of the academy report that the bonds they form with others facing similar challenges make their journey just a little easier.
They enjoy camaraderie with their new friends and benefit from the thought-provoking activities and physical exercises facilitated by professional staff members. With a close affiliation with UCF and Rollins College, the members of BFA have opportunities to interact with college students. Following a thorough evaluation of cognitive strengths, each member is assigned to a Graduate Clinician from UCF’s Communication Disorders Clinic who provides 30 minutes of 1:1 Cognitive-Communicative Therapy each week. In addition, each member receives a homework binder with activities to complete on days not at BFA.
If interested in joining an upcoming 14-week semester, please email [email protected] to schedule a pre-enrollment interview and to discuss tuition fees. Or visit our leadership page for staff contact.
